Pelvic physiotherapy is a specialized form of physical therapy focused on treating and managing issues related to the pelvic floor muscles and surrounding structures. The pelvic floor is a group of muscles and connective tissues at the base of the pelvis that supports the bladder, uterus, and rectum, and plays a crucial role in urinary and bowel control, sexual function, and core stability.

Pelvic physiotherapy involves a variety of techniques to address both internal and external pelvic health concerns. Treatments may include:

+ Pelvic Floor Exercises: These exercises, such as Kegels, strengthen and improve the function of the pelvic floor muscles. They can help manage conditions like urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and sexual dysfunction.
+Manual Therapy: This includes hands-on techniques to release tight or restricted muscles and connective tissues, improve alignment, and enhance pelvic mobility.
+Biofeedback: This technique uses electronic sensors to provide real-time feedback on muscle activity, helping patients learn to better control and strengthen their pelvic floor muscles.
+Education and Lifestyle Advice: Pelvic physiotherapists provide guidance on lifestyle changes, posture, and body mechanics to prevent and manage pelvic health issues.
+Functional Training: Exercises and strategies are tailored to improve daily function and support activities that involve the pelvic region.

Pelvic physiotherapy can be beneficial for individuals experiencing a range of issues, such as postpartum recovery, pelvic pain, bladder or bowel dysfunction, and pre- and post-surgical rehabilitation. It’s a personalized approach that addresses both the physical and functional aspects of pelvic health, aiming to enhance overall quality of life.
